The Trenton Neighborhood Initiative (TNI) is committed to addressing the social determinants that impact the health of Trenton residents, delivering solutions that complement the health care services Capital Health provides. Specifically, TNI will focus on programs supporting home ownership and rehabilitation, job training and employment, digital equity, and healthy beginnings to support the needs of new parents and families, as well as citywide strategies to improve the housing system and reduce lead poisoning.

A LETTER FROM THE CEO

To Our Community,

For over 125 years, Capital Health has been a part of the Trenton community. In that time, we have seen a lot of change. We have also grown as a health care system, adding services in Trenton that bring expert care to our community – close to home.

More than 40 years ago, I joined Capital Health as an intern. Since then, I held various jobs in the hospital before becoming CEO. No matter my role, my commitment to Trenton has never wavered.

While our day-to-day work focuses on delivering health care services and is critical to the health of our patients, we know good health is more than that. Health care systems like ours have a responsibility to support the broader health and well-being of our entire community.

To do this, we are spearheading the Trenton Neighborhood Initiative (TNI), a major effort to build stronger relationships with our neighbors and strong, sustainable neighborhoods. Through TNI, Capital Health is partnering with residents and stakeholders to offer services that meet the needs of the community. To make TNI a reality, Capital Health provided $1 million in start-up funding and is securing additional funding commitments to reach our initial goal of $10 million.

I asked Trenton Health Team (THT), our longtime partner, to serve as the implementation lead for the Trenton Neighborhood Initiative alongside a core team of Capital Health staff. As a major employer and longtime member of the community, we know more can be done to support residents and I am excited to see what we can do together.

TNI’s focus is on delivering innovative programs to support our neighbors as they Live, Work, Grow, and Connect.

The TNI team includes Capital Health, Trenton Health Team – and YOU! We look forward to taking this journey together!

Wishing you good health.
